Promise and his friends Marcus, Ian and Griffins live in Kariobangi South, one of the poorest neighbourhoods of Nairobi. The COVID pandemic closed all schools, so the four spend their days roaming the neighbourhood and dreaming about the future. The boys have a secret hideaway, the roof of a building overlooking the train tracks and a communal field used by local families. This rooftop is their escape from a harsh reality. Many of the children are already drifting into criminal activities and drugs. The secret rooftop is where they feel above the world and safe from the bullying by older boys. They dream of one day boarding a train and leaving forever. The only constant in their lives is the acrobatic training that they have every afternoon. Steve, their trainer, is a 38-year-old self-taught acrobat and one of the founders of the acrobatic group that tries to bring hope and empowerment to children in their society.
The group tours every summer through Europe with their “Cirque du Soleil” show, performing in main squares and at street festivals in various countries. The money raised is used to fund their children outreach project back home. Soon the group will choose a new children group for the next year, will one of the boys make it to travel with them and perform in Europe.
