Welcome to the fascinating world of performing divas: from the Sistine Chapel to the London theaters, the Castrati who expressed the most sensual and angelic sounds that the human voice is capable of making. Famous artists and countertenors tell the story of the Castrati’s rise and fall as international stars throughout Europe. Their performances moved audiences for more than two hundred years, peaking during the Baroque period.
Interviews with Max Emanuel Cencic, Philippe Jaroussky and other talented contemporary artists including Ernesto Tomasini reveal the musical legacy of the Castrati, the rivalry between masculine and feminine voices, and the voice as the means of expression of one’s soul. Interviews with music experts and voice therapists allow the viewer to have a better grasp of the morphology behind some the best vocalists and their performances, while excerpts from top operas such as Julius Cesar, Xerxes, Artaserse and Rinaldo provide evidence of the virtuoso of today’s modern artists.
