The documentary is a journey to discover the masterpieces of the Venetian painter Jacopo Robusti, known as Tintoretto, with a particular look at the creative madness, the undisputed genius of a man who revolutionized the way of painting in the most famous century of cultural history: the ‘ 500. Tintoretto is an artist defined as “The most terrible brain that painting has ever had” by Giorgio Vasari, “The first of the cursed poets” by Sartre, a painter who tore up the rules of painting of his time to lay the foundations for a future completely innovative.
A man who unconsciously founded the way of painting of many centuries later, so much so that he was described by an artist like Cezanne as “An immense artist”. There is no doubt about Tintoretto’s modernity, about the audacity of his brushstrokes, about the complexity of the stories told in his gigantic paintings, about his strategies that today we would define as marketing. The technical innovations of his painting have exerted a profound and constant influence on the history of art. The circle of his admirers ranges from Peter Paul Rubens and El Greco to Max Beckmann and Jackson Pollock; Tintoretto left tangible traces in their works.
