Starting from his studio and his work backwards to retrace the artistic work of Penon, from the beginning of the 60s. We go up to the radical choices, which led to its growth as an artist, the decision to start working in the mountain village where he was born, Garessio, the close relationship with its places, the landscape, between man and nature . Let us go back to his home in the archive. There is the director of “Mac’s Grand Hornu” (Belgium), Laurent Busine, which is preparing a catalog of him. You go to Belgium to Mons to Mac’s to see his installation of 5 works, which is located in the museum park, which was derived from buildings of a central coal and then back in the studio, where more and for the catalog you are choosing photos of overthrowing the eyes, the photos in a forest make that “the eyes with the mirror containing the image of the trees, that is, the artist embodies in himself the nature. If initially we see a narrative of “how” (and thus technique) are realized his works, then we come to the “why” of their origin (and therefore the idea, the original nucleus), at this point we have to reach the ring of the artist containing its personal size. We do more digging in his public image, and then find the private key. Penone thus reveals its “original spirit”, the peasant, simple, pragmatic and at the same time because it is linked to strong deep roots. The film ends in the area next to his studio. He bought a building of an industrial. We see him arguing with the workers in Piedmontese dialect, a rarity in a city where most of the workers are foreigners.
