Anna, 22-years-old, on a holiday in Sicily, witnesses accidentally of the tragic wreck of a ship full of refugees. Once back home in Trieste, Anna cannot forget what happened and joins as a volunteer an organisation that deals with the refugees’ reception. Here she meets Patrick, a charming italo-australian activist much older than her. Patrick asks her to take in Amira, a syrian girl just arrived in Italy. The cohabitation between the two girls will change their live forever, and will push Anna to confront with the reality and the sorrow of people who arrives as clandestine. Amira lost her husband at sea, but she still believes he’s alive.
When she finds out that Amira is pregnant, Anna understands she has to do anything in order to help her new friend, even if this means to put in danger her safe and quiet life.
