For the first time a “mexican look” on Tina Modotti: the mexican director Laura Martinez Diaz reconstructs the chronological origins of the photographer, from her childhood and adolescence in Udine – Friuli, up to his departure from Italy. At the age of 16 years, Tina Modotti takes a path like many Italians at the beginning of the twentieth century, forced to migrate, joining his father in the United States in 1913. For questions related to the case and the heart, he moved to Mexico after ten years. The country is experiencing a true “Renaissance” in arts after having experienced the first revolution of the century: many intellectuals and avant-garde artists find a home there. Tina Modotti is fascinated by Mexico City, where at that time there was an atmosphere of freedom, where creativity was brought to the service of society; so, she choose it as the preferred place to live.
In a poetic documentary, which gives great space to the exceptional pictures of Tina, also alternating current pictures of Udine and Friuli with archival photos of the beginning of the twentieth century, and rare and exceptional visual documents of Mexico at that time.
