Tzigari tells the incredible story of an Italian Roma between the two world wars, revealing hidden aspects of the fascist racial persecution and the participation of the Romani people to the Partisan war.
In the culture of Roma and Sinti there is no written statement. Little is known about the approximately 500,000 “gypsies” who were killed in Europe between 1940 and 1945 and the thousands of Italian Roma and Sinti who were interned in 80 camps set up by the fascist regime. The testimony of Tzigari is an authentic voice that comes directly from within the Roma population. Built around his history, the documentary offers an intimate and exclusive perspective on the Second World War, casting a new light on some dark and repressed pages of our recent history.
